When mothers make their homes a prioritity, when they care for thier homes, they bring a joy and stability that can not be grasped otherwise. We can write books, speak, or do any career, but it's the good, homemade dinners and cozy, well-kept homes that bring out the compliments from our families -that's because it meets the need! The good news? This doesn't have to take all day. Infact, it can be done in one hour -the homekeeping hour! So, here are the 4-Steps to the homekeeping hour: Step 1: Make the BedWhen you first get up in the morning, make the bed. This only takes about 5 minutes! If you make it before leaving the bedroom, one of the four daily tasks will be done. Here's how to do it the vintage way:
Should you air a room? I can't say enough for it! It makes the whole house fresh and improves the air quality. Step 2: Clean CountersCleaning counters is another grand-sweeping task that makes a big difference and takes about 5-15 minutes. I like to start this task by emptying the dishwasher and refilling if needed. Next, I clear all the counters of dirty dishes. Since my dishwasher is running, I pile them in the sink. Next, I spray the counters and let them soak for a few minutes. Finally, I wipe the counters clean. I love & use this diy all-purpose spray recipe! Bonus! For cleaning the stove-top, I use 3 ingredients:
Step 3: Check FloorsI have dark wood floors, so I have to sweep daily or it shows the dirt. Sweeping (and dry mopping) take me about 15 minutes a day. Again, it covers a large surface, so it gets your home neat & tidy quickly.
If you are overwhelmed with a messy house, and need a 20 day plan to a neat & tidy home, you might enjoy Our Book and its step-by-step guidance! Step 4: Tidy & TrashThe last of the four daily tasks is tidy-up and take out trash which takes 15 minutes. If you ask your children to help with the tidy-up, you will go farther faster!
Maximize your efforts and assign zones for each person (living, office, kitchen, etc.). After you hear the buzz, look at how tidy & neat your home is. Don't forget to take out the trask and reline the buckets -one person can start with this task. So, why was my family so content? I was focusing on caring for my home more. I had recently read a fun vintage homekeeping book, and was trying out their routines. What a difference! All those little tiffs ... had gone away.
