For the Adding Beauty to the Home Series, I am assuming you have already done the homekeeping hour which includes the 5 tasks on our free homekeeping calendar. I mention this because a pleasant home is first, and foremost, neat and clean. So, what does bring beauty to the home? I think, after cleanliness, it is those pleasant things which touch the human senses, and thus the soul. For example . . .
Let's look at the first on the list, a pleasant scent to smell. Today, I will share my Top Three Ideas for adding beauty to the home through a pleasant scent to smell. #1 Airing the HomeAir the home by opening windows each day. Each morning, I throw back the bed covers and open up windows for 10+ minutes (often much longer depending on the temperature), not just in the bedroom, but throughout the home. You can air the home while you are getting ready for the day, so it really adds no extra time to your homekeeping hour. I learned about airing the home, from several old-fashioned homekeeping books. Just think of those lovely summer breezes blowing the window curtains, and you have the idea. #2 Burning a CandleI can not think of a more simpler way to adding a pleasant scent, then burning a candle. You can place that candle in a safe, high spot (out of reach for little hands) and you have a pleasant scent with the added bonus of ambiant lighting. I use and LOVE the lemon essential oil in the kitchen and bath. As a bonus, I would say that keeping bad scents out of the home (garbage pail, smelly pets, etc.) will help too.
